Steve Gleason’s Domecoming gathering starts at 3 p.m. at Lafayette Square

Monday’s celebration starts downtown before the Saints play Atlanta. Here’s where to gather and which part requires a game ticket.

Steve Gleason’s Domecoming celebration begins with a gathering at Lafayette Square at 3 p.m. Monday, October 5, before the Saints host the Atlanta Falcons.

The announcement from Gleason’s music project invites fans to greet him, hear Mayor Helena Moreno speak on the steps of Gallier Hall and join a procession toward the Caesars Superdome. A Kern Studios float is part of the procession, and organizers plan commemorative handkerchiefs for the first 500 participants.

The 3 p.m. time is when people are invited to gather. The announcement does not give a separate departure time.

The concert requires a game ticket

Marc Broussard and guests will perform music from Gleason’s Rebirth project at Champions Square before the game. The Saints’ official guide says Champions Square is open to ticketed guests, with game tickets scanned at the entrances. Festivities begin three hours before kickoff and end 45 minutes before it.

The afternoon gathering and procession are listed separately from that ticketed concert. Plan around the square if you want to join the public celebration, and have your game ticket ready if you’re continuing into Champions Square.

Domecoming marks 20 years since the Saints returned to the Superdome after Hurricane Katrina. Gleason’s blocked punt against Atlanta happened on September 25, 2006; October 5 is this year’s celebration.
