New Orleans has opened enrollment for free diabetes prevention groups in New Orleans East, Central City and Algiers. The city’s October 7 announcement describes a 12-month program with 22 in-person sessions and coaches.
Where the groups meet
- New Orleans East: Joe Brown Recreation Center, 5601 Read Boulevard. The first session is scheduled for noon on October 19.
- Central City: the HCH Conference Room at Edna Pilsbury Health Center, 2222 Simon Bolivar Avenue.
- Algiers: Morris Jeff Recreation Center, 2529 General Meyer Avenue.
The Central City and Algiers groups will start once at least 10 people enroll. Their start dates have not been announced.

The program is for eligible adults. Read the Health Department’s criteria and use its linked interest form to request follow-up. Submitting interest does not guarantee a seat.
