New Orleans property owners have a new way to compare possible 2027 tax changes. The city released an online calculator on October 1 that shows how different millage scenarios could affect a property's annual and monthly costs.
The city's announcement describes a potential millage roll forward under consideration by the City Council. The scenarios are proposals, so the calculator should not be read as a final 2027 tax bill.
Start with the right property value
The calculator specifically asks for market value from your assessment notice, rather than assessed value. Its page also links to the Orleans Parish Assessor's website if you need to look up your property.
Choose the property's location, type and applicable homestead exemption, then compare the available scenarios. The example already displayed on the page belongs to the tool's sample inputs. It does not represent every New Orleans household.
The city says the tool can be customized for individual parcels and also explains how millage choices affect city revenue and the services those taxes support.
There is a public hearing on the calendar
The notice on the city's announcement page lists a City Council hearing for November 5, 2026, at 10 a.m. in the Council Chamber at City Hall, 1300 Perdido Street. That notice concerns possible additional or increased millage rates.
The useful next step is to compare the scenarios for your own parcel, then follow the council's decisions. Keep the estimate separate from an actual tax bill until the rates are finalized.
