The Black Schoolhouse celebrates its new permanent home in the Seventh Ward on Saturday, October 10. Its grand opening and tenth anniversary event runs from noon to 4 p.m. at 1660 N. Roman Street.

The organizer’s current registration page lists free admission with RSVP. Reserve through that page and check its availability before going.

The celebration includes a ribbon cutting, tours led by Junior Designers, an exhibition and an art station for children. Knockaz Brass Band and DJ Antwigadee are part of the program, with food truck and beverage options also listed.

The Schoolhouse is intended as a permanent neighborhood hub for creative education, cultural exchange and community resources. Today’s opening marks both that new space and ten years of The Black School’s work.
