What is Swampus Returns?
Produced by the Krewe of Krampus in partnership with Art of the Parade and One Krewe, Swampus Returns brings artists, walking krewes, and neighbors together for a Halloween parade built around sustainability. It is the krewe’s October celebration; the separate Krampus NOLAuf parade is scheduled for December 5, 2026.
When and where to watch
The parade starts at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2026, in New Orleans’ French Quarter. Spectators can watch for free. The organizer’s route map begins at St. Ann and North Rampart streets and follows a course through Bourbon, St. Philip, Royal, and Chartres streets. Handmade costumes and thoughtful throws
Expect elaborate creatures, large puppets, and live performances. Reused materials and costumes made by hand are central to the event, along with throws designed to become keepsakes. The fun comes from seeing how local makers turn everyday materials into something wonderfully strange.
Want to walk in the parade?
Individuals, families, krewes, and community groups can register through the organizer’s Luma page. As of September 29, late registration is $45 through October 2. Registration closes that day, and the organizer says there will be no day-of registration. The participant fee supports permits, insurance, public safety, accessibility, and parade operations; spectators do not need to buy a walking registration.
Accessible viewing and sensory support
One Krewe’s Accessibility Row is at 721 St. Philip Street. Bring a folding chair if you need seating. The organizer lists sensory bags and a portable sensory tent, plus limited accessible parking by reservation through info@onekrewe.org. There are no restrooms at this viewing location.
